Description
The ViPrimePLUS Enterococcus faecium qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Enterococcus faecium genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood, faeces and urine) and environmental samples such as water and hospital equipment.
Enterococcus sp. is a group of Gram positive bacteria which is normally found as a normal flora in human and animal gut. However, infection may occur due to the disruption of the microbial balance in the gastrointestinal tract. There are 17 species that cause clinical infections in human, especially in hospital settings. E. faecalis and E. faecium are the most prevalent species. The latter represents most of the vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) strains. Others such as E. avium, E. gallinarum, E. casseliflavus, E. durans, E. raffinosus and E. mundtii are clinically significant, too. Intrinsically, most enterococci are resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics aside from their capability in acquiring resistance to a broad range of antibiotics. New antibiotics developed to counter the VRE infections may have improved the situation, however resistant strains has been reported recently. Thus, enterococci are considered the most feared nosocomial pathogens.
ViPrimePLUS Enterococcus faecium qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
