Description
The ViPrimePLUS Mumps Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Mumps Virus genome in clinical samples (e.g. throat swab, cerebrospinal fluid and urine).
Mumps virus is a linear, non-segmented, negative-strand RNA virus that belongs to the genus Rubulavirus in the family Paramyxoviridae The mumps virus genome contains seven genes encoding the nucleoprotein (N), phosphoprotein (P), matrix protein (M), fusion protein (F), small hydrophobic protein (SH), hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) and polymerase protein (L). It is transmitted either by direct contact or aerosol route, but could also spread by contact with contaminated objects. The virus enters the body via the pharynx or the conjunctiva and upon receptor binding to sialic acid located on the host cells, the nucleocapsid is released into the host cells through membrane fusion. The virus then localizes in the throat but disseminates via the bloodstream, infecting various organs, salivary glands, testes, ovaries, pancreas and the brain. The period of incubation for mumps virus ranges from 12 to 24 days, with infection being asymptomatic in 20-30% cases. These symptoms include fever, headache, malaise, face pain, unilateral or bilateral swelling of the parotid glands and jaws, and orchitis in males.
ViPrimePLUS Mumps Virus RT-qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
